Uncharted 4: Thief's End Review

All righty, so I just finished Uncharted and I would definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone to play. Now there were a few pros about the game, not sure if there are actually any cons with it, considering this is the final in the Nathan Drake series.

Pro's

Fighting Style

What I like about this is that there is no block so you have to time your evasions just right. It also feels as if he’s punching not throwing two lead bricks at someone’s head – like in Golden Abyss (PS Vita).

Crash Bandacoot

Yes, I love this part about the game! Not just because I use to play it, but because you can see the graphical evolution from the PS1 game to the present PS4. It also helps the fact he doesn’t go out on “Jobs” anymore so it adds to the homely feel it gives off.

Puzzles

Now I actually like these sorts of games where you use your head rather than a gun, and these puzzles don’t disappoint. From working out the three crosses and bucket, to the sigils and how they’re supposed to be placed, it adds that Nathan Drake feel without there being any overkill because it is the last in the series.

Driving

This was a feature I had read about in a few places and was wondering how it would turn out, considering this was something I hadn’t had the chance to do in the previous games. I was worried it would feel to heavy and look out of place – but I worried for nothing. It not only looked good but the controls felt really fluid and the truck was really easy to drive. The way it moves when you turn had me on occasion turning the way the truck was turning, so to me they made driving feel very interactive and the conversations the boys were having was rather enjoyable as well J

Dialogue Options

This is both a pro and a con. It was a good feature to add but it felt a bit out of place when you were given three options to choose from and there was very little difference between them. Still though, I think it was something worth trying considering they chose just the right moments to use it.

Weapons

Now, I’m not a gun nut but I do prefer games that, when you have weapons it doesn’t take you eons to reload or to swap between them. Also, the weapons that are available to use gives you a chance to grab one shoot it a bit and keep it if you like it or drop and pick another up. My personal favourites have to be:

  • Para .45

  • Barrok .44

  • M14 Custom

  • FAL

  • Copperhead SR7

  • Dynamite

  • Grenade

  • Propane Tank

  • Fire Barrels

…and that’s it, I think……yep, that’s all of them. Though I have to admit, firing the Flintlock was pretty awesome ;-)

Collectibles

Now I am a major collector, any games that has that option I will collect everything that I see before I move on but for this game I had to put my magpie mind-set away so I could complete the game to review it, though I did pick up a few through the story but not all which is a complete surprise – especially when you have the blinking white light calling “Pick me up” to you.

Journal

Yes, the journal is a pro. I like it because you can re-read any letter or just see how he describes putting his hand through the hole to open the door, which is pretty hilarious with the drawings that go with it hehehe.

Subtitles

So this is also a pro and con. The subtitles are really handy when your running around and forget you’re with someone else and in fights it helps too, but the only issue I have with this is that when you’re fighting the Mexican guy in the prison, whatever he is saying in Spanish comes up in the subtitles in Spanish. So unless you know how to speak Spanish it can come out any way to see fit. I’m particularly bothered by it as from previous games usually when you’re in a fight it’s more trash talk rather than “Your boots look rather good; I’ll make sure not to mark them”.

Con's

Now there are a few topics from above that were both a pro and con, but I cannot for the life of me come up with something bad about this game, which is weird because this has never happened before. I suppose that just proves that NaughtyDog pulled out all the bells and whistles to make one hell of a game. to remember.

After playing the Epilogue I got a slight feeling that if they did do anymore Uncharted games, it would probably be based on Nathan and Elena's daughter, her names Cassie, which I think would be something different, but I'm just happy the final game in the series was a good one.

Now, once the credits started to roll I found myself comparing it to my Top 10 and realised that

I had to put it at number 1.

That may not seem like too much to some people but that was a massive placement, considering I had Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at 1st place for more than a year so kudos to NaughtyDog for not only kicking one of my favourites out of 1st place, didn't sting too much, but also giving us an action/adventure game worth playing again and again and recommending to everyone.

Well that’s it from me, can’t wait to see what else is in store for the year and who knows, maybe one of those games will beat Uncharted and take 1st place, guess you guys will just have to come back and see.
